Jesus and The DaVinci Code
The DaVinci Code, already a bestselling fiction novel, opened as a major motion picture on May 19, 2006. Many thousands across the United States and elsewhere responded to the movie's promotional phrase, "Seek the Truth."
We invite you to do just that---seek the truth. Scroll down for notes about Grace and Truth Chapel's DaVinci Code program and additional links about relevant issues.
DaVinci Code Program at Grace and Truth Chapel
On May 7, 2006, we presented a DVD program titled "The DaVinci Code Deception" (re-released as "Breaking the DaVinci Code" by Grizzly Adams Productions). Historians, theologians, art experts, and other scholars discussed significant inaccuracies in the novel. Although the fictional DaVinci Code characters sound authoritative and informed, their "facts" about Christ and Christianity don't stand up to scrutiny.
By contrast, the gospel writings in the New Testament give eyewitness accounts of Christ's person and work. Our session concluded with three points about Him.
No Ordinary Man
A great windstorm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so that it was already filling.
Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, "Peace, be still!" And the wind ceased and there was a great calm.
And they feared exceedingly, and said to one another, "Who can this be, that even the wind and the sea obey Him!"
--Mark 4:37-41
No Ordinary Death
Jesus cried out again with a loud voice, and yielded up His spirit.
When the centurion and those with him, who were guarding Jesus, saw the earthquake and the things that had happened, they feared greatly, saying, "Truly this was the Son of God!"
--Matthew 27:50, 54
No Ordinary Outcome
Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men.
And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.
Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
--Philippians 2:5-11
